Drugstore Owner Beaten by Mob Following Alleged Attempted Rape of Three Children

Local residents in the Matlab Dakshin upazila of Chandpur district apprehended a 45-year-old pharmacist on Tuesday evening after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault three young girls. The suspect, Joynal Abedin Majumder, was detained by an angry mob at his shop before being handed over to local law enforcement.
According to police reports and accounts from the victims’ families, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the three girls, aged between 10 and 12, were walking home past Majumder’s pharmacy. The suspect reportedly lured the children inside under the guise of offering them food. Once inside, he allegedly subjected the minors to sexual abuse and attempted to rape them. The girls managed to escape and fled to their homes.

Initially, the victims remained silent due to threats allegedly issued by Majumder. However, the situation came to light on Tuesday evening after one of the girls confided in her mother. Upon learning of the incident, community members confronted the pharmacist at his place of business, where they reportedly beat him before summoning the police.
The father of one of the victims stated that his daughter has been left severely traumatized by the ordeal and is currently experiencing significant psychological distress. Families of the victims are demanding exemplary punishment for the pharmacist.

Officer-in-Charge of Matlab Dakshin Police Station, Hafizur Rahman, confirmed that a case has been filed against Majumder under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Following his formal arrest, authorities initiated the legal process to transfer the suspect to judicial custody.
