Renowned Bangladeshi actress Ferdousi Majumdar has revealed that she once declined a career-defining opportunity to star in a film directed by the legendary Satyajit Ray, citing her dedication to motherhood. During an event titled “Ferdousi Majumdar: Life and Acting,” held Saturday to mark the seventh anniversary of the theater troupe Onuswor, the veteran performer explained that her priority at the time was caring for her young daughter, Tropa. For her, the responsibilities of family and raising a child outweighed the allure of a prestigious cinematic role.
Despite her selective approach to film, Majumdar noted that she did make a rare appearance in the Bangladeshi production “Borof Gola Nodite.” She candidly admitted that this specific professional choice was driven by financial necessity rather than artistic ambition, marking a singular departure from her theater-focused career. Throughout the discussion, moderated by Onuswor chief Mohammad Bari, she drew sharp distinctions between the nuances of stage acting and television performance.

While she initially pursued acting in her youth by keeping it hidden from her father, she found a nurturing environment in her marital home, where her husband Ramendu Majumdar’s family—including her brother-in-law—were deeply involved in the arts. She emphasized that her daughter, Tropa, never stood in the way of her professional aspirations.
