Real Madrid Returns to Winning Ways

Real Madrid secured a vital 2-1 victory over Alaves at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night, ending a four-match winless streak and easing pressure on manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The win, sealed by goals from Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr., allows Real Madrid to narrow the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Mbappe opened the scoring in the first half with a deflected shot from outside the box that found the net, somewhat against the run of play after facing initial boos from the home crowd. Despite enjoying possession, Real Madrid struggled to create clear-cut chances against a resolute Alaves side, who also threatened on occasion. Eder Militao’s injury in the first half added to Real Madrid’s concerns.

Vinicius Jr. doubled the lead shortly after halftime, unleashing a powerful strike from approximately 25 yards following an assist from Federico Valverde. His goal celebration, a raised hand towards the supporters, appeared to signal an apology and shifted the atmosphere of the match.

Real Madrid maintained control for much of the second half, though they failed to extend their lead. Mbappe had several opportunities, but Alaves goalkeeper proved instrumental in keeping them at bay. Alaves mounted a late surge and pulled a goal back through Toni Martinez in added time, but it proved to be only a consolation.

With this victory, Real Madrid sits second in the La Liga table with 73 points from 32 matches. Barcelona leads with 79 points, having played one game fewer. Alaves remains in the relegation zone with 33 points.
