26 millimeters of rain fell in the capital in three hours from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday. This is a lot of rain. And it is expected that the air quality will be better if it rains. But this Thursday morning, the capital Dhaka is the most polluted city in the world. Air quality is 177. This value is called ‘unhealthy’. Why is this situation despite the rain? Such a question was asked to Ahmed Kamruzzaman Majumdar, an air expert and chairman of the Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS) on Saturday morning. He was then at Bailey Road in the capital. He was going to his workplace by car. He sent a few pictures. It can be seen that there is construction going on in the road. Construction materials including bricks and sand are lying everywhere.
Professor Kamruzzaman Majumder was telling Prothom Alo, “Construction materials are lying in the open, everything has been left in the open. These dust and sand will collect on the wheels of the cars passing through this road and they will fall on the main road. At least 300 places will be available in the capital. They have no maintenance. If it rains, the pollution may be temporarily reduced, but the dust is spreading again quickly from these places. And with it there are defective vehicles. Not one of them could be stopped with a bang.

It is not only this organization that is careful about air pollution. Many experts, environmentalists, doctors have been doing it for a long time. And there is no dearth of cluster projects to reduce pollution. But it did not reduce Dhaka’s pollution, instead it increased. As May approaches, it rains almost every day, but the air quality shows no signs of improvement.
Kamruzzaman Majumder was saying that only if measures are taken to prevent pollution during construction, the air quality will return to some extent. City Corporation is responsible for this work. For this they do not need any separate project. They have to do in existing laws. But the city corporations are not aware of these aspects.
Jakarta, Indonesia is second in pollution today, the air quality is 159.
Bangladesh Development Research Center (BIDS) in Agargaon area of the capital is at the top of air pollution today. The air quality of this area is 216. If the air quality is more than 200, it is called ‘very unhealthy’. Another area with very unhealthy air is Baridhara Park Road. The air quality here is 209. Then in the pollution list are Gulshan’s Beige Age Water (194), Grace International School (181), Uttar Badda (161), Becharam Deuri (180), Gulshan Lake Park (178) and Baridhara Lake Side (171).
According to IQAir’s advice, with the air quality in Dhaka today, you must wear a mask if you go out. It is advised not to exercise outside the house. And the windows of the house should be kept closed as much as possible.
