Coxs Bazar launches inaugural eco-friendly residential project near coastline

Cox’s Bazar Development Authority (KSDA) has officially launched its inaugural residential project, “Swapnachura,” marking a significant step in the planned urbanization of the coastal tourist hub. Located in the Adarshagram hills near the Kalatali bypass road, the project offers a serene environment surrounded by lush greenery, situated just 1.5 kilometers from the sea.
The development consists of four 15-story towers housing 339 residential units. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated the project on Friday, personally handing over the keys to the initial group of homeowners. During the ceremony, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Cox’s Bazar into a world-class tourist destination while strictly prioritizing environmental conservation over uncontrolled, high-density concrete construction.
He urged developers and planners to draw inspiration from Singaporean models, suggesting that the integration of eco-friendly resorts, parks, and recreational zones is essential to attracting international tourists. The minister further noted that the government is finalizing a comprehensive master plan to reshape the city, promising that more sustainable housing projects will be implemented to address the growing demand for living space.
The project, which broke ground in mid-2019 and was completed this year, was designed to provide an affordable alternative to the congested, expensive living conditions found elsewhere in the city. KSDA set the unit price at 3,895 taka per square foot, a rate significantly lower than current market trends. To prioritize occupant well-being, over 60 percent of the project area has been left as open space, with the majority of the apartments facing the southeast to capture natural light and sea breezes.
Residents moving into the complex have expressed relief at the transition from the city’s dense urban core. For families like those of Shahedul Islam and Kanak Sharma, the move represents a shift to a healthier environment, free from the daily gridlock and cramped conditions of the city center. The residents now enjoy proximity to the coastline, which is a ten-minute walk away, and views of the Bay of Bengal from their balconies.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the complex is equipped with modern infrastructure, including advanced waste management systems, comprehensive fire safety protocols, and spacious communal areas. Each tower features multiple staircases and dedicated emergency exits to ensure the safety of its 339 families. KSDA Chairman Mohammad Jashim Uddin affirmed that the authority intends to continue this trajectory, with future projects aimed at securing affordable and dignified housing for low and middle-income residents.
