Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to Host Three-Day Free Film Festival

The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is set to host a three-day cinema event titled “Cholochitro Utshob: Ekal-Shekal,” aimed at bridging the gap between historical milestones and contemporary filmmaking. Running from August 9 to August 11 at the National Film Auditorium, the festival will feature a curated selection of six films. Under the theme “Cinema for All, Art and Culture for All,” the event is organized by the academy’s Department of Drama and Film with support from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. All screenings are free and open to the public.
The festival commences on August 9 at 6:00 p.m. with the screening of Mehedi Rahman Sumon’s critically acclaimed drama “Hawa” (Hawa), which gained significant domestic and international recognition following its release during Eid-ul-Adha. The opening night continues at 8:00 p.m. with a showcase of Zahir Raihan’s timeless classic “Jibon Theke Neya,” featuring an ensemble cast including Razzak, Suchanda, and Anwar Hossain.
The second day, August 10, shifts focus to mid-century and socio-political narratives. At 5:30 p.m., the audience can view Khan Ataur Rahman’s “Abar Tora Manush Ho,” followed by a screening of Mohammad Nuruzzaman’s “Mastul” at 8:00 p.m.
The final day of the festival, August 11, highlights diverse storytelling techniques, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with Amjad Hossain’s celebrated film “Dui Poishar Alta.” The event concludes with a 8:00 p.m. screening of “The University of Chankharpul,” directed by Akash Haque, marking the close of the three-day cinematic retrospective.
