Authorities at Islamic University in Kushtia have expelled a female student following allegations that she secretly captured and distributed intimate photographs of her peers to her boyfriend. The incident, which has sparked widespread concern among the residential student body, prompted immediate administrative intervention to ensure the privacy and safety of those living in the university’s dormitories.
According to reports, the accused student had been in a relationship with a man living in the United Kingdom. University officials state that the student habitually sent photos of her hall-mates in compromising positions to the man. The situation escalated when the relationship between the two soured, leading the man to circulate some of the illicit images back to the victims themselves, which triggered an immediate outcry within the hall.
University administrators and the proctorial body were alerted to the breach on Thursday night. By Friday morning, the hall authorities convened an emergency meeting where seven students filed formal written complaints. Evidence presented by the victims—including digital records shown to faculty members—confirmed the unauthorized distribution of the images. Upon initial questioning, the accused student reportedly admitted to the conduct.
In a video statement provided to campus media, the accused student claimed she did not fully grasp the severity or illegality of her actions. She argued that her peers were acquainted with the man and suggested that the images were shared merely to provide context during conversations, stating she had not intended for them to be used maliciously.
The university has launched a formal investigation into the matter, establishing a three-member committee led by Professor Arifa Akhtar, with Professor Muhammad Kamruzzaman serving as member secretary and Assistant Proctor Professor Md. Khairul Islam as a committee member. The panel has been tasked with submitting a comprehensive report within seven working days.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, the university has seized two mobile phones belonging to the accused student. Furthermore, hall authorities have imposed a strict ban on video calls within dormitory rooms to prevent further privacy violations; students are now required to conduct such calls outside their living quarters. Additional victims have been invited to come forward until Sunday, as officials work to determine the full scope of the privacy breach. The accused student has been released into the custody of her father pending further disciplinary proceedings.
