Power Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Hospitalized With Respiratory Issues

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud has been admitted to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital following complications including fever, respiratory distress, and a persistent cough. Hospital authorities stated that the minister is currently in stable condition, though he remains under intensive observation.

The 76-year-old minister arrived at the hospital’s emergency department at 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday. His medical history includes diabetes and hypertension, and he recently underwent a procedure to place a stent in his coronary artery while in Bangkok.

Initial examinations at the emergency department revealed that the minister was suffering from significant respiratory distress and low blood oxygen levels. He was subsequently moved to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) for further evaluation and treatment. A three-member medical board was initially formed to oversee his care.

Following a review of blood test results and chest X-rays, medical staff diagnosed the minister with pneumonia and initiated an appropriate course of treatment. A second, expanded medical board comprised of various specialists was formed at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday to coordinate his ongoing care.

Hospital officials confirmed that the minister’s condition has stabilized, but doctors have advised that he remain hospitalized for a period to ensure a full recovery and to continue close monitoring.
