Measles Outbreak Claims Four More Lives in Bangladesh as Total Deaths Reach 983

Four more people have died from measles or measles-like symptoms in the country over the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since March 15 to 983.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed these figures in its daily bulletin released on Wednesday. According to the report, three of the latest fatalities occurred in the Dhaka division, while one was recorded in the Mymensingh division.
Since the outbreak began on March 15, the country has recorded 884 deaths attributed to measles-like symptoms and 99 confirmed measles fatalities.
In the 24-hour period ending at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, health officials documented 1,034 new cases exhibiting symptoms of the virus, with 63 cases confirmed through laboratory testing.
Data from the DGHS indicates that since March 15, the cumulative number of suspected cases has reached 160,184, while 19,447 cases have been officially confirmed. During this period, 140,472 patients have been admitted to hospitals, of whom 135,417 have recovered and been discharged.
While the DGHS statistics do not provide a breakdown by age, epidemiologists emphasize that measles can affect individuals of all age groups, though children remain the most vulnerable demographic. Health authorities currently categorize all deaths involving measles-like symptoms occurring during this outbreak as measles-related fatalities.
