Preity Zinta Ends Eight-Year Film Hiatus With Partition-Era Drama

Bollywood actress Preity Zinta is set to return to the silver screen after an eight-year hiatus, marking her comeback with the historical drama “Lahore 1947.” The actress, who stepped away from the spotlight to focus on raising her children, recently shared that she has no regrets regarding her long absence from the industry.

Reflecting on her time away from film sets, Zinta emphasized that motherhood provided a sense of fulfillment that eclipsed her professional achievements. She stated that while she had a successful career, raising her children remains her greatest accomplishment. According to the actress, her total immersion in family life allowed her to cherish personal milestones away from the pressures of the entertainment world.

In “Lahore 1947,” directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Zinta portrays a Muslim woman living through the tumultuous period of the Partition. The narrative follows her character and her husband, played by Sunny Deol, as they provide refuge to a Hindu woman during the intense communal rioting in Lahore. Zinta noted that her own experience as a mother provided a deeper emotional connection to the character, allowing her to better understand the immense value families placed on protection and unity during the 1947 crisis.

The return to professional acting proved to be a challenging experience for the star. Zinta recounted that the production team opted to shoot the film’s most emotionally demanding sequence on the very first day, a decision that left her feeling profoundly nervous.

She described the initial hours on set as overwhelming, noting that she struggled with nerves while preparing for the intense scene. However, she credited her long-time co-star, Sunny Deol, for providing essential support during the production, which lasted throughout the night. Despite the difficult start, Zinta noted that after navigating the initial dialogue and technical requirements, she quickly regained her rhythm in front of the camera.
