Former Notre Dame College teacher found dead in Dhaka residence

The body of Dhirendra Kumar Roy, a 71-year-old retired teacher from Notre Dame College, was recovered from his residence in the Kalabagan area of the capital on Monday morning. Police, citing statements from the family, have characterized the death as a suspected suicide.
The incident occurred at the victim’s home located at 188, Green Road. According to Sub-Inspector Atikur Rahman of Kalabagan Police Station, the victim’s daughter discovered him hanging from a ceiling fan. With the assistance of neighbors, she transported him to the emergency department of Green Life Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:15 a.m.
Authorities reported that at the time of the incident, the victim’s wife, Deepali Roy, a school teacher, was away at her workplace, and their daughter had been asleep. Family members informed the police that the retired educator had been suffering from mental health issues and various physical ailments since 2025.
Dhirendra Kumar Roy was originally from the Manikganj Sadar Upazila and maintained a residence in the Bangram residential area. Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
