High Court Upholds Death Sentences for Two in Nusrat Jahan Rafi Murder Case

The High Court on Monday upheld the death sentences of two individuals convicted in the high-profile murder case of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi in Sonagazi, Feni. Of the 16 defendants originally sentenced to death by the trial court, the High Court commuted the sentences of four to life imprisonment, while the remaining 10 were acquitted.
In Rangpur, police have revealed that the murder of a retired schoolteacher, his wife, and their two children was motivated by a dispute over drug use rather than robbery, as initially suspected. Investigators stated at a press conference on Sunday that the victims were killed for attempting to stop the perpetrator from consuming yaba. The victims’ relatives have expressed skepticism regarding the police’s findings.
