The seven-day Baisakhi fair is starting at Bangla Academy

‘Baishakhi Mela 1433’ is going to start in a joint initiative of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industry Corporation (BCIC) and Bangla Academy. This fair will start from tomorrow Tuesday and will continue till April 20. The seven-day fair will feature traditional materials, various products made by small and cottage industry entrepreneurs, Baisakhi decorations, clay products, Nakshikantha and rural traditions.

This information was given by the chairman of BCIC in a press conference at Bangla Academy on Monday. Saiful Islam Professor Mohammad Azam, Director General of Bangla Academy was present at this time.

It was informed in the press conference that the fair will be open for everyone from 10 am to 7 pm every day. Agricultural products, handicrafts, folk products, jute and leather products will be available in the fair. There will be GI products like Jamdani, Shataranji and Shitalpati. Apart from cottage industry products, handicrafts and pottery products, toys, decorative items and various folk food items.

According to the organizers, the fair will have a total of 160 stalls. These include 7 stalls for leather goods, 6 stalls for jamdani, 4 stalls for nakshikantha, 44 stalls for textiles, 5 stalls for shataranji and 2 stalls for Manipuri saris. There are also 13 stalls allotted for artisan zone, children’s rides and entertainment zone, puppet show, bioscope and cultural programs. 13 stalls for marginal artisans, 2 stalls for minority groups and 1 stall for Voluntary Blood Donation Program of Quantum Foundation have been allocated free of charge.

It was also informed in the press conference that BSIC and Bangla Academy have been organizing this fair jointly since the late 1970s to make the New Year festive.

The fair will be inaugurated tomorrow Tuesday at 11:30 am at Bangla Academy premises. Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Industries Minister Khandkar Abdul Muktadir will attend the event as guests.
