Court grants four-day remand for suspect arrested in Mirpur shooting incident

A Dhaka court has granted a four-day remand for 24-year-old Md. Kawshar Bhuiyan, known as Shanto, following his arrest in connection with a shooting incident in the city’s Mirpur-10 area. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque issued the order on Wednesday after hearing the petition filed by investigators.
The arrest took place late Tuesday night after patrol officers heard gunfire near the Chourangi Market in the Senpara area of Mirpur-10. With assistance from local residents, police apprehended Kawshar at the scene. Authorities recovered a six-chamber revolver, two live cartridges, four spent casings, and fragments of a fired bullet from his possession.

According to Mirpur Model Police Station officials, Kawshar failed to produce any valid documentation or licenses for the firearm. During initial questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed that he had targeted a 40-year-old man named Saiful Islam, also known as Siju, as part of an ongoing personal vendetta. He allegedly carried out the shooting with the assistance of an accomplice named Zakir, who remains at large.
The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Rakibul Islam, had requested a seven-day remand to further interrogate the suspect. Police stated that the additional time is necessary to uncover the motive behind the shooting, locate the fugitive accomplice, and determine the source of the illicit weapon. Law enforcement is also working to establish whether the incident is tied to a broader criminal network.
