Rickshaw puller dies following altercation over traffic congestion in Rajshahi

A 45-year-old rickshaw puller died following a physical altercation triggered by a traffic dispute in the Malopara area of Rajshahi city. Local police have registered a murder case at Boalia Police Station on Thursday in connection with the incident.
The victim, identified as Palash, was a resident of the Rajarhata area. His body has been transported to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, after which it will be released to his family.
According to police and local sources, Palash, who suffered from high blood pressure, had visited a pharmacy in the Malopara area around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday to check his vitals. A dispute arose when his parked rickshaw caused a traffic obstruction, leading to a heated argument and subsequent scuffle with the owner and staff of the nearby Shimanto Homeo Hall.
Police arrived shortly after the incident to mediate the situation. Following the altercation, local residents transported the ailing victim to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending physicians.
Sub-Inspector Towhidul Islam of Boalia Police Station confirmed that the confrontation escalated into physical violence after the victim was confronted about the traffic congestion caused by his rickshaw.
Boalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Masuma Mustari stated that the victim’s family filed a formal complaint at approximately 3:00 a.m. Following necessary procedural adjustments, a murder case was officially registered, naming the individuals who allegedly assaulted the victim as defendants.
