Police file anti-terrorism case after pressure cooker bomb discovery in Savar as investigation into militant activity intensifies

Police have registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act following the discovery of a pressure cooker bomb in the Sadhapur area of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka. The case, filed late Wednesday night at Savar Model Police Station, names six to seven unidentified suspects.
Sub-Inspector Imran Hossain, in charge of the Bhavanipur Police Camp, is the plaintiff in the case. Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Alam stated that local residents reported seeing three individuals abandoning the explosive device late Tuesday night. Based on these witness accounts, police have initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area surrounding the Goper Bari Laltek Ghora Mosque and interviewing local residents to gather further leads.
In a separate development, police have requested a 10-day remand for Mohammad Arif, a 26-year-old operative of the banned militant organization Neo-JMB. Arif, who was arrested in Hemayetpur, was transported to court under heavy security on Thursday afternoon.
His arrest led investigators from the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and local police to a three-story building in Dakshin Shyampur. During the initial arrest, police recovered five bombs, three knife-like explosive devices, and various bomb-making materials from a bag in Arif’s possession. A subsequent search of his room yielded an additional six bombs and a significant cache of components, including chemicals, gunpowder, electrical wires, bearing balls, nitric acid, and plastic containers.
