Prime Minister Tareque Rahman Invites US Firms to Expand Investment in Bangladesh Amid Reforms

Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has invited United States corporations to expand their business operations in Bangladesh, pledging full government support and a conducive investment climate. The Prime Minister issued the call on Thursday during a meeting with a 50-member delegation from the US-Bangladesh Business Council at his office in the Secretariat.
The delegation was led by Oliver Simpson, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Excelerate Energy, and Atul Keshap, President of the US-Bangladesh Business Council and Senior Vice President for South Asia at the US Chamber of Commerce.
Addressing the delegation, Prime Minister Rahman emphasized his administration’s commitment to fostering a private sector-led, rule-based economy. He stated that the government is dedicated to simplifying regulatory frameworks, implementing business-friendly fiscal policies, and ensuring a robust environment for foreign capital. “We welcome your capital, technology, expertise, and global experience. We want US businesses to be our partners in this transformation,” he said.
The Prime Minister identified several key sectors ripe for investment, including energy, infrastructure, technology, digital services, finance, agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, and logistics. He assured the delegates that the government is actively working to streamline bureaucratic processes, enhance tax and VAT administration, facilitate profit repatriation, and accelerate the digitalization of public services.
Highlighting the nation’s ambitious economic targets, Rahman noted that Bangladesh aims to become a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2034. He positioned the government as a proactive partner, noting that officials are prioritizing renewable energy projects and infrastructure modernization to support long-term economic growth. Drawing on his own background as a businessman prior to his political career, the Prime Minister assured the delegates that his government understands the necessity of the right policy environment for sustainable growth.
The delegation’s visit included high-level consultations with several cabinet ministers, state ministers, and senior government officials, including Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, and Commerce and Industry Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir.
The US delegation comprised representatives from major global firms, including Mastercard, Meta, the US Soybean Export Council, Visa, Boeing, Chevron, MetLife, and Uber. Key business leaders, including Salil Gupte of Boeing, Shu Shiong of Chevron, and Elena Butarova of MetLife, participated in the discussions alongside US Chamber of Commerce officials.
The Prime Minister concluded the meeting by urging the investors to view the entire government as their partner. He reiterated that the administration remains ready to listen, respond, and collaborate to ensure mutually beneficial economic relations between the United States and Bangladesh.
