Jagannath University forms committee to probe 68 faculty members over alleged anti-state activities

Jagannath University has launched a formal investigation into 68 faculty members following allegations of involvement in clandestine anti-state activities and efforts to facilitate the return of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The university administration announced the formation of a four-member probe committee in an official notice issued by the Registrar’s office on Thursday.
The inquiry was prompted by a report published in the ‘Asia Post,’ which alleged that the named faculty members participated in subversive activities. The committee, tasked with verifying these claims and submitting a formal report, is headed by History Professor Nasir Ahmad, with Section Officer Moha. Abdul Malek of the Registrar’s office serving as member secretary. Professors Muhammad Jamir Hossain of the Chemistry Department and Associate Professor Md. Mezbah-ul-Azam Sowdagor of the Political Science Department round out the investigative body.
Beyond the allegations of anti-state subversion, the committee has been mandated to investigate the role of faculty members during the recent anti-discrimination student movement. Specifically, investigators will determine whether any teachers were involved in suppressing the protests or threatening student demonstrators during the tenure of the previous administration.
The university has set a strict deadline of August 13 for the committee to complete its findings. The body is expected to identify any individuals found to be in violation of university policies and national interests, and to provide actionable recommendations for disciplinary or corrective measures.
