Court Denies Bail for Content Creator Prince Mamun in Dowry-Related Assault Case

A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Thursday denied bail to content creator Abdullah Al Mamun, widely known as Prince Mamun, in a case involving allegations of domestic abuse and attempted murder. Magistrate Md. Ismail issued the order following a hearing where legal representatives for both the prosecution and the defense presented their arguments.

During the proceedings, defense lawyers Palash Chandra Roy and Abdullah Al Mamun argued that there was insufficient evidence to support the accusations of dowry demands. They characterized the incident as a mutual altercation and stated that the defendant is willing to reconcile with his spouse. Conversely, counsel for the plaintiff, Sarkar Sabbir Hossain, opposed the bail plea, asserting that the defendant has a pattern of financial exploitation and repeated physical abuse throughout the marriage.

The legal proceedings stem from a series of complaints filed by the victim, a fashion model who married the content creator approximately five months ago. According to the case documents, the couple’s relationship was marred by frequent disputes, with allegations surfacing that Mamun was involved in extramarital affairs and suffered from substance abuse. The victim claimed that her husband subjected her to persistent emotional and physical violence after she refused his demand for 10 million taka to fund a business venture.

The charges were further compounded by an incident on the night of July 23, during which the victim alleged that an intoxicated Mamun attempted to strangle her after she refused to secure the requested dowry from her parents. Medical reports cited in the case file note that the victim sustained visible injuries, including a laceration beneath her left eye and trauma to her right ear.

This decision marks a continued period of detention for the defendant. He was initially sent to prison on July 24 following the denial of bail in the dowry and assault case. Subsequently, the court granted a petition on Wednesday to formally arrest him in connection with a separate case regarding an alleged suicide attempt broadcast on social media from the couple’s residence in the Bashundhara residential area.
