Dhaka businessman hospitalized after being found with firearm in Khilgaon

Dhaka police have launched an investigation after a local businessman was found severely injured in the Nandipara area of Khilgaon on Sunday. Khorshed Alam Sohel, 45, who operates a brick and sand supply business, was discovered by officers in a bloodied state following reports that a mob had detained him.
According to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md. Imran Sheikh of the Khilgaon Police Station, authorities arrived at the scene to find approximately 50 people surrounding the injured businessman. Local residents alleged that they had apprehended Sohel while he was in possession of a loaded homemade pistol and a knife, items that police subsequently seized as evidence.
Sohel was initially transported to Mugda General Hospital for emergency treatment before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he remains under police guard.
The businessman’s wife, Tarin Akter, has vehemently disputed the account provided by the crowd, alleging that her husband was the victim of a premeditated attack. She claimed that Sohel had been involved in a long-standing business dispute and had received threats from local rivals prior to the incident. Akter asserted that her husband was lured to the location under false pretenses, beaten by members of a local family, and subsequently framed with the weapons found at the scene to ensure his arrest.
Police have confirmed that Sohel is a known figure to local authorities, as he is already named as a suspect in several existing cases at the Khilgaon Police Station. ASI Imran Sheikh stated that senior officials have initiated a formal inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and to verify the conflicting claims regarding the possession of the weapons.
