Police recover stolen gold earring from snatcher after forced vomiting in Dhaka

A traffic police sergeant in Dhaka successfully recovered a gold earring from a suspected thief who swallowed the jewelry to evade detection following a snatching incident on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. at the Jatrabari intersection in the capital. The victim, identified as Nipa Akter, was traveling by rickshaw to visit a physician when the assailant snatched the earring from her ear and attempted to flee on foot.
Upon hearing the victim’s cries for help, Sergeant Imran Mridha, who was on duty at the intersection, pursued the suspect and successfully apprehended him. Although the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mohammad Selim, was immediately taken into custody, an initial search of his person did not yield the stolen property.
Under interrogation, Selim confessed to swallowing the gold earring to conceal evidence of the theft. Police officials subsequently induced vomiting, which resulted in the recovery of the stolen item from the suspect.
Law enforcement authorities confirmed that Selim, a resident of the Rayerbagh area, has been transferred to Jatrabari Police Station alongside the victim for further legal proceedings.
