Police Recover Bodies of Mother and Daughter in Tangail Following Apparent Murder-Suicide

Police recovered the bodies of a mother and her four-year-old daughter from their home in Mirzapur, Tangail, on Friday morning. Investigators suspect the mother killed her child by smothering her with a pillow before taking her own life.
The deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Kanika Begum and her daughter, Razia Akter. Kanika was the wife of Rajib Hossain, a construction worker residing in Dhupuria village under the Anaitara Union of Mirzapur.
Local residents and police reported that Kanika and Rajib, who married six years ago, frequently argued over financial difficulties. Tensions escalated on Thursday night when Rajib left their home following a domestic dispute and did not return.
On Friday morning, Kanika attempted to leave for her paternal home in Jhurjhuria village, located in the Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka district. However, Rajib’s father, Nazim Mia, intercepted her and convinced her to return to the house. Shortly after re-entering the home with her daughter, the pair remained silent for an extended period, prompting family members to investigate.
Upon checking the room, relatives discovered Kanika’s body hanging from a ceiling beam and found the young child lying dead on the floor.
Assistant Superintendent of Police for the Mirzapur Circle, Adnan Mostafiz, and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirzapur Police Station, Abdullah Al Mamun, arrived at the scene to recover the bodies.
OC Mamun stated that preliminary evidence suggests a domestic conflict led to the murder-suicide. The bodies have been sent to Tangail Medical College for post-mortem examinations to confirm the official cause of death. Police confirmed that the remains will be released to the family following the completion of legal procedures.
