Police officer found dead in Coxs Bazar hotel room

Police in Cox’s Bazar recovered the hanging body of a police officer from a residential hotel room near the city’s central bus terminal on Friday. The deceased, identified as 44-year-old Ataul Kabir, was a member of the force stationed at the Whykong Highway Police Outpost in Teknaf.
Authorities discovered the body at approximately 4:00 p.m. after breaking down the door of room 401 on the fourth floor of the Dhaka Residential Hotel. According to hotel staff, Kabir had checked into the hotel alone at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday. He was scheduled to check out by 11:00 a.m. on Friday, but when he failed to emerge from the room, staff grew concerned. After multiple attempts to elicit a response proved futile, they alerted the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station.
Upon entering the room, officers found Kabir’s body suspended from the ceiling fan. Investigators recovered his national identification card, police credentials, medical records, and various personal belongings from the scene. Kabir was the son of Abdul Khaleq Majumdar, hailing from Urubunia village in the Rajbari area of Pirojpur’s Nesarabad Upazila.
Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Officer-in-Charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, stated that the cause of death remains under investigation. The body has been sent to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, which officials expect will clarify the circumstances surrounding his death.
Nurul Absar, the in-charge of the Whykong Highway Police Outpost, confirmed that Kabir was assigned to his unit. He further noted that the department had received information suggesting the officer had been experiencing prolonged family disputes.
