Four Arrested Over Midnight Vandalism and Demolition of Mirpur Healthcare Center

Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the midnight vandalism, looting, and demolition of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in the capital's Mirpur-1 area, during which security guards were tied up and held hostage. Shah Ali Police Station confirmed the arrests on Saturday afternoon following raids conducted the previous night.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Md Sohel, 22, Md Jewel, 23, Jihad Hasan, 21, and Md Rabbi, 20. According to investigators, three of the four suspects are transient individuals residing near the Shah Ali Shrine who allegedly participated in the coordinated attack in exchange for money. Police officials stated that the suspects have confessed to their involvement and have already been forwarded to court, while operations to apprehend other culprits remain ongoing.
The incident occurred at approximately midnight on Thursday, when a masked mob exceeding two hundred individuals armed with local weapons stormed the facility. The attackers incapacitated the security guards before plundering valuable medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and cash. Subsequently, the perpetrators deployed heavy machinery to completely demolish the entire installation, which comprised one permanent structure and three semi-permanent buildings.
Nasrin Akhter, executive director of the institution, confirmed that a formal case has been lodged with Shah Ali Police Station, though a copy of the First Information Report has not yet been received by the management. Established in 1974, the Radda MCH-FP Centre has long served underprivileged and low-income populations in Mirpur by providing essential maternal and child health care, childhood immunization services, reproductive health care, and family planning support.
