Father Killed in Stabbing by Son Following Family Dispute in Rangpur
A 55-year-old man was killed in Rangpur's Pirgachha upazila after being stabbed by his son following a family dispute over the latter's marital issues. The tragic incident took place on Friday night in the Masterpara area under Char Tambulpur union, sending shockwaves through the local community.
According to local sources and law enforcement authorities, the conflict stemmed from tensions surrounding the 22-year-old suspect, Hasanur Rahman, whose marriage took place approximately three months ago. Following the wedding, the suspect remained unemployed, prompting his wife to leave for her paternal home in the Laksam area of neighboring Gaibandha district's Sundarganj upazila. The marital discord intensified as the suspect refused to consume food out of spite and engaged in ongoing friction with his wife's family.
The situation escalated on Friday morning when the suspect's mother-in-law arrived at the home alongside several relatives to address the separation. The suspect adamantly refused to seat or host the visitors, triggering a heated domestic argument. By approximately 9:00 PM, the victim, Mahabur Rahman, urged his son to dine alongside his mother-in-law. When the suspect persistently defied the directive, the father slapped him in frustration. In a fit of rage, the young man retrieved a sharp knife from the room and plunged it directly into his father's chest.
Neighbours and family members rushed the grievously wounded victim to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead upon arrival.
Pirgachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Selim Malik confirmed the incident, stating that law enforcement personnel have launched an active manhunt to apprehend the fugitive suspect. The body will be handed over to the grieving family following an autopsy, while preparations for filing a formal murder case are currently underway.
