Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Visit Japan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia over Next Two Months
Preparations are underway for the Prime Minister to visit Japan and Saudi Arabia on bilateral tours and attend the COP31 climate summit in Turkey over the coming months
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is slated to undertake a series of high-level diplomatic visits to Japan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia spanning across October and November, according to diplomatic sources in Tokyo, Riyadh, and Ankara. The preparatory phases for these crucial international engagements are already underway, with senior officials from Bangladesh and the respective host nations actively coordinating through diplomatic channels.
The itinerary will commence with a three-to-four-day official visit to Japan during the final week of October, following an invitation from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Bilateral discussions are expected to prioritize the expansion of trade investments, the facilitation of a business conference, and a comprehensive review of skilled manpower export targets. This upcoming visit builds upon deepening bilateral ties, recalling the May 2025 visit by Bangladesh's then-Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, which yielded seven Memorandums of Understanding across the investment, energy, and technology sectors, alongside a mutual commitment to dispatch 100,000 skilled Bangladeshi workers to Japan over a five-year span and reinforce strategic partnerships under the Bay of Bengal initiative.
Following the Tokyo engagement, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will travel to Turkey in early November to participate in the upcoming 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference, commonly known as COP31. The high-level segment and leaders' summit are scheduled to take place from November 10 to 12 in Antalya, during a broader conference window running from November 9 to 20. Analysts underscore the critical importance of this climate summit for Bangladesh—a nation acutely vulnerable to climate change—especially as the global community moves past the ten-year milestone of the Paris Climate Agreement to focus heavily on implementation mechanisms, accountability, and the operational efficacy of climate finance and loss-and-damage funds.
Concluding the diplomatic tour, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Riyadh during the second half of November at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. Preparatory talks between Bangladeshi and Saudi officials have already commenced to outline the agenda for the bilateral meetings in the Saudi capital. These consecutive diplomatic missions are anticipated to significantly bolster Bangladesh's international standing, economic partnerships, and collaborative frameworks on both regional and global platforms.
