Chief Justice Calls For Expanding Tribunals In Divisional Cities To Expedite Justice

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed has emphasized the urgent necessity of establishing additional tribunal buildings across divisional cities to accelerate the delivery of justice. Addressing an interactive session with members of the Bangladesh Judicial Service stationed in the Sylhet division, held at a resort on the outskirts of Sylhet city, the Chief Justice underscored that ensuring swift and cohesive justice for litigants remains the primary objective of the judiciary. Judges from various courts across Sylhet, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, and Sunamganj districts participated in the event.
During his address, the Chief Justice directed judicial officers to maximize the application of information technology in appropriate stages of judicial proceedings, including witness depositions and the production of accused individuals. He assured comprehensive support from the Supreme Court in integrating digital solutions into the judicial workflow.
Stressing the importance of institutional integrity, the Chief Justice urged judges to discharge their duties with utmost honesty, dedication, and professionalism. He mandated the strict observance of designated court working hours and cautioned judges against leaving their respective workstations without prior authorization from the competent authority, while reiterating the necessity of adhering strictly to legal and judicial standards.
Judges serving in various courts within the Sylhet division used the platform to apprise the Chief Justice of systemic challenges hampering effective case disposal, including shortages of judicial officers and support staff, budgetary constraints, and infrastructural limitations. In response, the Chief Justice assured that these grievances would be considered with utmost seriousness and that swift, effective measures would be taken to resolve the crises.
The event was attended by High Court Division Justice Md. Atabullah, who is responsible for monitoring subordinate courts in the Sylhet division, and Supreme Court Registrar General Md. Habibur Rahman Siddique, alongside other dignitaries. Chief Judicial Magistrates, Chief Metropolitan Magistrates, and Senior District and Sessions Judges from the four districts of the Sylhet division also addressed the gathering, sharing their perspectives on enhancing professional efficiency, accelerating trial proceedings, and reinforcing public trust in the judicial system.
