Daylight Armed Robbery at Narayanganj Jewelry Shop Sparks Business Community Fear
A brazen broad-daylight heist at a jewelry shop in Narayanganj has left local traders deeply unnerved, prompting an active manhunt and initial arrests by law enforcement authorities. A gang of armed assailants stormed the establishment in broad daylight, physically assaulting the proprietor and stripping a female customer of her valuables before escaping with a substantial cache of gold and silver.
The incident unfolded on Friday at approximately 12:30 PM at a jewelry shop located in the number one Dhakeshwari Bazar area of Bandar upazila in Narayanganj. According to the shop owner, Debashish Dhali, a group of 10 to 12 individuals wielding sharp local weapons suddenly forced their way into the premises during normal business hours. The perpetrators swiftly subjected him to physical abuse under threat of violence, before holding a female customer hostage at gunpoint or weapon-point to plunder her purse and strip her of three and a half bhoris of gold jewelry. The gang then ransacked the store's safe and drawers, cleaning out an additional four and a half bhoris of gold along with an estimated 200 to 300 bhoris of silver.
The daylight robbery, occurring in a bustling commercial hub, has triggered widespread alarm among local business owners regarding public security. Expressing shock at the audacity of the criminals, affected merchants have urgently demanded the immediate apprehension of all culprits and the full recovery of the looted assets.
A closed-circuit television recording of the robbery quickly circulated across social media platforms, accelerating police identification and response efforts. Security forces launched coordinated operations following the incident to recover the stolen bullion and apprehend the suspects.

Meanwhile, Tareq Al Mehedi, additional superintendent of police (Crime and Operations) in Narayanganj, stated that authorities successfully tracked down and detained one suspect after analyzing the surveillance footage. The detained individual has reportedly confessed to involvement in the robbery during initial interrogations, while police teams continue their pursuit of the remaining fugitives ahead of a formal case filing upon receipt of a victim complaint.
