Rohingya Youth Killed, Eight Injured in Coxs Bazar Camp Autorickshaw Collision
A Rohingya refugee was killed and at least eight others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between two auto-rickshaws inside the Balukhali Rohingya camp, designated as Camp-18, in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar district.
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 8:30 AM at a three-way intersection in the F-30 block of the camp. The deceased was identified as 34-year-old Md Hashim, a resident of the H-75 block and son of Nurul Alam. The violent impact left both CNG-powered three-wheelers completely mangled.
According to camp leader Kamal Hossain, more than a thousand CNG-run auto-rickshaws and battery-powered easy-bikes operate within the congested confines of the settlement to facilitate refugee transportation. The morning collision involving two passenger-laden vehicles critically injured nine individuals on board. Rescuers immediately rushed the victims to the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) hospital operating inside the camp, where the attending physician pronounced Hashim dead upon arrival. The remaining injured passengers received medical treatment at the same facility.
in-Charge (OC) Md Atiqur Rahman stated that a general diary (GD) has been filed with the police station. Following a decision by the victim's family, the body was handed over to the grieving relatives in the afternoon without a post-mortem examination.
