After the death of his mother in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, an army man and his brother were beaten up by intern doctors and handed over to the police when they went to complain about medical negligence. Their relatives are making such allegations. On the other hand, the intern doctors have started a 24-hour strike to protest being victimized by the ‘mob’. They also held a human chain program on Tuesday morning to demand security.
The name of the army man who was beaten by the intern doctors is Sohail Ali (29). His rank is Lance Corporal. His brother’s name is Joy Ali (24). They are sons of Alam Ali of Dharmahata village of Charghat upazila of Rajshahi. Their mother Juliara Begum (50) was admitted to ward number 36 of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital last Sunday. He died on Monday evening.

At one stage, they obstructed the government work of intern doctor Tanya Akhter and Shibli and started showing various threats including verbal abuse and being aggressive and aggressive. But Jai interrupted the official work of the doctors and kept shouting and misbehaving with them. At one stage, the people present along with other intern doctors from another ward arrested them and informed the Rajpara police station.

The statement also said that by that time the hospital director and other senior authorities had reached the spot and got to know about the incident from both sides. On the instructions of the director, after knowing the details of the incident, the plaintiff came to the police station and filed a statement. It is also mentioned in the statement that the defendant Sohail Ali was given first aid by the intern doctor and the people present at the hospital as he was slightly injured during the detention.
Rajpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said that the hospital authorities handed over Julia Begum’s body to her relatives at night. Jai Ali was arrested and sent to court this morning in a case filed by the hospital authorities. And based on this case, soldier Sohail Ali has been handed over to the army for trial under martial law. In the statement of the case, the incident of ward number 36 has been described, where intern doctor Tanya Akhtar and Md. Shibli is described as behaving rudely and obstructing government work.
But when asked about this today, intern doctor Shibli told Prothom Alo that he was not in ward number 36. He faced a similar incident in Ward No. 13. There was no medical negligence. The patient’s relatives were not touched. The patient’s relatives behaved harshly with them, shouting and obstructing government work.

In the hospital, the previous day on Sunday, there was a heated situation between two intern doctors on duty in ward number 13 and the patient’s relatives. The same thing happened the next day. Today, the Intern Doctors’ Society announced a 24-hour strike in a notice stating that the intern doctors were harassed and mobbed on these two days. At the same time, they held a human chain program in front of the administrative building of the hospital from 9 am.

The intern doctors warned that more stringent measures will be taken if their demands are not implemented. Currently, the 24-hour strike called by them is ongoing.
When asked about the matter, the spokesperson of the hospital told Shankar Biswas that he is in a meeting about this and will talk later.
