Gunmen Target Businessman in Highway Attack Near Chattogram

An unidentified group of gunmen targeted a local businessman in a shooting incident on the Chattogram-Rangamati regional highway late Tuesday night, leaving his vehicle damaged but resulting in no casualties.
The victim, S.M. Shahidullah, a resident of Raozan who operates several brick manufacturing plants, was traveling alone in his SUV toward his home shortly after midnight. As he passed the Chara Bottola area of Ichapur Bazar in Hathazari, his vehicle was intercepted by several assailants riding two motorcycles.
According to accounts provided by the businessman, the attackers first pelted his car with bricks in an attempt to force him to stop before discharging four rounds of gunfire at the vehicle. The suspects fled the scene after local residents, alerted by the sound of the gunfire, began to congregate.
Shahidullah told the national daily Prothom Alo that this was not an isolated incident. He alleged that he has been the target of repeated attacks recently, which he believes are linked to ongoing disputes surrounding his business operations. He further claimed that his residence had also been targeted by criminal elements in previous incidents.
Local authorities have since launched an investigation into the attack. Hathazari Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Tareq Aziz confirmed that officers recovered four spent shell casings from the scene. Police are currently working to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the assault.
