Bangladesh Power Minister Pledges Further Reduction in Nation’s Power Shortages

Power supply conditions in Bangladesh have improved significantly, though the government acknowledged that localized load-shedding will persist as authorities work to balance national output with demand.
Addressing the national parliament on Monday, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid stated that the government remains fully committed to eliminating power interruptions. The minister explained that a temporary spike in load-shedding observed the previous day was caused by the sudden closure of two power plants, which strained the national grid.

Current data indicates that electricity generation has reached 14,500 megawatts against a demand of 14,839 megawatts. This leaves a deficit of 339 megawatts, which necessitates limited rolling blackouts in specific areas.
The minister emphasized that efforts are underway to bridge this remaining gap and restore uninterrupted supply across the country. He noted that while the situation was particularly challenging on Sunday, recent operational adjustments have allowed for a steady recovery of the power distribution system.
