Two friends died in a head-on collision between a truck and a motorcycle in Meherpur. The accident took place at PTI Mor area of ​​Meherpur city yesterday at around 8:30 pm.

The two deceased are Nayan Hossain (22), a resident of Khandkarpara of Meherpur Sadar Upazila and Jiban Ali (21) of Bandar village of the same upazila.

According to fire service and local sources, Nayan was going towards Mujibnagar with his friend Jeevan on his motorcycle last night. When the motorcycle reached the PTI junction area, it tried to overtake a truck in front. At that time, the motorcycle collided head-on with another truck coming from the opposite direction. Nayan died on the spot. The local people rescued Jeevan with serious injuries and took him to Meherpur General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Some eyewitnesses said the speed of the motorcycle was so high that it was impossible to control. Hearing the loud noise of the accident, they came and saw one lying frozen on the road and the other lying on the side of the road bleeding.

Meherpur General Hospital emergency department doctor Salehin Kabir said both of them suffered serious head injuries in the accident. They died before or soon after being brought to the hospital due to excessive blood loss.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station Salim Reza said that as there was no complaint from the family, the bodies were handed over to the relatives without post-mortem. A case of wrongful death has been registered in the police station in this incident.
