Two children killed, mothers injured in road accident while traveling home for Eid

Two children were killed and two women were critically injured early Thursday morning when their autorickshaw collided with a stationary truck on a highway in Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat upazila. The accident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. near the Kanagari Bazar area on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway.
The victims have been identified as four-year-old Abdullah, son of Shamsul Haque and Dulali Begum from Joypurhat’s Panchbibi upazila, and four-year-old Arifa Khatun, daughter of Al Amin and Farida Begum from Hakimpur upazila. Both mothers, 25-year-old Dulali Begum and 20-year-old Farida Begum, were injured in the crash and are currently receiving treatment at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.

According to local police and family members, the victims had been traveling from Dhaka on Wednesday night to celebrate the upcoming Eid holiday with their families. After disembarking from a bus in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj early Thursday, they boarded a CNG-run autorickshaw bound for Bhaduria Bazar. The collision occurred when the autorickshaw struck the rear of a truck parked on the highway, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn.
Local residents rushed to the scene and transported the victims to the Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex, where medical personnel confirmed the deaths of both children. The two injured women were subsequently transferred to the district medical college for advanced care.

Ghoraghat Police Station officer-in-charge Shahidul Islam confirmed that the truck driver fled the scene immediately following the collision. Authorities have since released the bodies of the two children to their families without post-mortem examinations, per their request. A general diary has been filed with the police as an investigation into the incident continues.
