Two children drown in Padma River in Chapainawabganj

Two children drowned in the Padma River on Friday while bathing near Bakher Ali village in Chapainawabganj. The victims were identified as eight-year-old Karima, daughter of Jahurul Islam, and seven-year-old Israt, daughter of Kajol Ahad.
Local residents and village police reported that the two children were swimming with a group of friends around noon when they slipped into deeper water and disappeared beneath the surface. Despite immediate rescue efforts by bystanders, the children could not be located, prompting a call to the local fire service.
A specialized diving team arrived at the scene to conduct a search and rescue operation. Divers recovered Karima’s body at approximately 2:40 p.m., followed by Israt’s remains at 4:10 p.m.
Ikramul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station, confirmed the fatalities and stated that the bodies have been recovered.
