Police Hunt Two Men Accused of Abducting and Raping Madrasa Student in Comilla

Police in Comilla’s Debidwar are searching for two men accused of kidnapping and raping a madrassa student last Saturday. The victim’s mother filed a formal complaint under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Wednesday afternoon, identifying the suspects as 24-year-old Sabuj Mia and 29-year-old Md. Ismail, both of whom are cousins and recently returned from working abroad.

According to the case file, the victim was walking near the Barera Phulgachtala area on Saturday morning when the two men allegedly intercepted her. The suspects reportedly brandished a weapon and forced her into an autorickshaw, transporting her to Sabuj Mia’s residence. The student told investigators that she was held captive and raped by the men, who threatened to kill her father and disfigure her with acid if she reported the assault.

The girl managed to escape the residence and return home to inform her family. Her parents, who work as laborers in Dhaka, returned immediately upon receiving news of the incident. The family alleges that in the days following the assault, the suspects attempted to suppress the matter by offering a 3-lakh taka bribe through local intermediaries. The case gained public attention after details of the incident surfaced on social media on Tuesday.

Debidwar Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed that authorities initiated an investigation immediately after the allegations appeared online. On Wednesday, the victim underwent a medical examination, and her testimony was recorded by a court under Section 22. While police have yet to apprehend the suspects, officials stated that search operations remain ongoing to bring the men to justice.
