Measles Outbreak Death Toll Climbs to 828 in Bangladesh

Three more children have died from symptoms of measles in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll from the disease and its associated complications to 828 since mid-March.

According to the latest report released by the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday, the most recent fatalities occurred in the Chittagong and Rajshahi divisions. The surge in cases remains persistent, with health officials recording 799 new cases of children exhibiting symptoms and 105 confirmed cases of measles within the same 24-hour period ending Tuesday morning.

Since the outbreak began on March 15, the national health infrastructure has been under significant strain, processing 125,544 patients presenting with measles-like symptoms. Clinical diagnostics have confirmed the virus in 15,660 of these cases.

Hospitalization data highlights the scale of the ongoing public health crisis, with 108,441 children admitted for treatment over the past four and a half months. While the majority of patients have recovered—with 104,235 children discharged after successful treatment—the mortality figures reflect the severity of the outbreak. Official records indicate that 733 children have died from symptoms linked to the disease, while 95 deaths have been directly attributed to confirmed measles.
