Dhaka University Journalism Alumni Association Elects New Committee

A new executive committee for the University of Dhaka’s Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni Association (DUMCJAA) has been elected through direct voting for the 2026-2028 term. Elias Khan, an advisory editor at Times of Bangladesh, secured the presidency, while Shahnaj Sharmin Rinvi, editor of Shadhin Media, was elected general secretary.

The voting process commenced on Friday at 3:30 PM at the student-teacher center’s sports room and concluded at 7 PM, with alumni members casting their ballots. The results were announced late Friday night at midnight by Chief Election Commissioner Mahfuzur Rahman after the vote count.

The newly formed committee includes several vice presidents: Tariqul Islam Khan, deputy general manager (public relations) at Petrobangla; Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, deputy commissioner of Gazipur; Kabir Ahmed Khan, former general secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity; Sharmin Akhter, executive vice president at Prime Bank; and Shahed Alam, a former journalist and analyst.

Jashmin Jahan, Chairperson of J&Z Group, and Majedul Islam, publisher of Joyoti Prokashoni, were elected joint general secretaries. Shakil Hasan, a senior reporter at Jamuna Television, also won a joint general secretary position.

Taki Mohammad Jobair, a senior reporter at Times of Bangladesh, was elected finance secretary. Masud bin Abdur Razzaq, online in-charge at Deepto TV, secured the position of organizing secretary. Rofiqul Islam, a senior reporter at Business Standard, was elected assistant organizing secretary, and Lincoln Md. Lutforuzzaman Sarkar, assistant vice president of media and communication at Nagad Limited, took the role of assistant finance secretary.

Mahfuzur Rahman served as the chief election commissioner. The election commissioners were Zahid Newaz Khan, chief editor of Channel I; Abu Saleh Akon, president of Dhaka Reporters Unity; Daulat Akhtar, president of the Economic Reporters Forum; and senior journalist Angur Nahar Monty.
