Man killed in covered van collision in Dhaka Jatrabari area

A 43-year-old steel furniture worker was killed late Saturday night after being struck by a covered van in the Shanir Akhra area of Dhaka. The victim, Soleman Dewan, was attempting to cross the road beneath a pedestrian bridge when the collision occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m.

Liton Bepari, the victim’s brother-in-law, explained that Soleman had traveled to Dhaka from Munshiganj earlier in the evening to assist a patient at a local hospital. After initially starting his journey home following the patient’s admission, Soleman received news of the patient’s death and was navigating his way back to the hospital when the accident took place. The impact left him critically injured on the roadway.

Bystanders rushed Soleman to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff at approximately 1:45 a.m.

Police inspector Md. Faruk, stationed at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, confirmed that the body has been transferred to the morgue for further procedures. Local law enforcement authorities have been notified to initiate an investigation into the incident.

Soleman, a resident of Nayagaon Purba Para village in Munshiganj Sadar, leaves behind two daughters and a son.
