Dhaka man arrested for fatal stabbing of wife and mother-in-law

Dhaka police have detained a 30-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of his wife and mother-in-law in the city’s Kalabagan area on Sunday morning. Authorities identified the suspect as Hridoy, also known as Shipon, who allegedly committed the double homicide following a domestic dispute.
According to the Kalabagan police, the incident took place around 9:30 a.m. The victims, 20-year-old Farzana Begum and her 38-year-old mother, Firoza Begum, were both killed during the altercation.
Investigators stated that Hridoy and his wife, Farzana, had been arguing when Firoza intervened in an attempt to de-escalate the conflict. The situation turned violent when Hridoy reportedly drew a knife and attacked both women. Farzana died at the scene, while her mother, Firoza, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead by attending physicians.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalabagan Police Station, Md. Fazle Ashik, confirmed that Hridoy is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation. Preliminary investigations suggest the couple, who were from Shariatpur, had attended a family function in Mohammadpur on Saturday night before staying at the mother-in-law’s residence.
Police have launched a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. Further details are expected as the interrogation continues.
