Suspected Burglar Killed by Mob Following Armed Attack in Pabna

A 32-year-old man was beaten to death by a mob early Monday morning in Ishwardi, Pabna, after he was accused of attempting to rob a local grocery store. The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. in the Mistripara Thandatola village.
According to local accounts, the victim, identified as Manik Hossain, allegedly broke into a grocery store owned by Habibul Mondal. When the shop owner, whose residence is located adjacent to the store, heard suspicious noises and confronted the intruder, a violent struggle ensued. Police report that Hossain attacked Mondal with a Chinese-style axe, inflicting wounds on his hands and back.
When the shop owner’s two sons rushed to their father’s aid, they were also attacked by the intruder with the same weapon. The commotion drew the attention of neighbors, who arrived at the scene, overpowered Hossain, and subjected him to a fatal beating. He died at the site before medical assistance could be provided.
The injured shop owner and his two sons were transported to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asadur Rahman confirmed that officers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to recover the body. The remains have been sent to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death and the subsequent mob violence, stating that appropriate legal measures will be taken pending the outcome of the inquiry.
