Four Children Drown in Narsingdi Canal Incident

Four children drowned in a canal in Raipura, Narsingdi, on Thursday while swimming during a break from their religious studies. The victims—identified as 13-year-old Tabiya, 10-year-old Sumaiya, 9-year-old Ayesha, and 8-year-old Jannat—were all students at the local Gausia Nure Madina Women’s Madrasa.
According to local authorities and family members, the tragedy occurred when a group of six students ventured into the canal near their school in Chanderkandi Union’s Barkanda village. When four of the children began to struggle and slipped beneath the surface, the two remaining students fled to the bank to alert nearby residents.

Villagers immediately launched a rescue effort and pulled the four children from the water. One child was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining three were rushed to the Raipura Upazila Health Complex, but medical staff confirmed they had succumbed before reaching the facility.
Dr. Ashrafur Rahman, a physician in the health complex’s emergency department, stated that the three children brought to the hospital showed no signs of a heartbeat upon arrival. After a thorough medical examination, they were declared dead.

Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mojibur Rahman confirmed the incident and stated that law enforcement officials are currently on the ground. Authorities are consulting with the grieving families to determine the necessary legal actions regarding the circumstances of the drowning.
