Dhaka Court Opens Trial in Rape and Murder Case of Eight-Year-Old Child

A Dhaka tribunal on Monday formally initiated the trial of a couple accused of the brutal rape and murder of an eight-year-old child in the capital’s Pallabi area.
Judge Masrur Salekeen of the Dhaka Child Repression Prevention Tribunal framed charges against the primary suspect, Sohel Rana, and his wife, Swapna Akter. The court’s decision clears the path for the prosecution to proceed with the case, which sparked significant public outrage following the incident.
Following the formal indictment, the court scheduled the commencement of witness testimony for Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. The proceedings will seek to establish the culpability of the accused in a case that underscores the ongoing struggle against violence targeting minors in the country.
