Anti-corruption commission begins inventory of assets at dismissed general Ziaul Ahsan’s residence

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated a formal inventory of assets located at a Mirpur DOHS apartment belonging to dismissed Major General Ziaul Ahsan, acting under a court mandate. A specialized ACC team, overseen by an executive magistrate, began documenting the contents of the property on Wednesday morning.
ACC Deputy Director Md. Aktarul Islam confirmed that the operation is being led by Deputy Director Md. Hafizul Islam. This latest action follows a similar search conducted on July 20 at a duplex property owned by the former military officer in the Jolsiri Abashon project in Narayanganj. During that earlier operation, the anti-graft agency reportedly seized precious metals, jewelry, high-end electronics, and various luxury household goods.
These seizures are part of a broader legal effort to secure assets linked to the former official. On January 27, a court appointed the respective district commissioners and the Public Works Department as receivers to oversee the management of all immovable properties confiscated from Ahsan and his associates. These measures stem from a judicial order issued on April 24 of last year, which authorized the attachment of approximately 180 million taka in land and property, alongside the freezing of nine bank accounts.
The ACC filed a formal case against Ahsan on January 23, 2025, accusing him of accumulating significant wealth beyond his known sources of income and engaging in money laundering.
Ahsan previously served as the director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC), the country’s primary agency for telecommunications surveillance. Following the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina administration, he was removed from service. He has been in judicial custody since his arrest in the Khilkhet area of the capital on August 15, 2024.
