State-run Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) has officially commenced drilling operations for a new gas well, designated as Sundalpur-4, in the Senbagh upazila of Noakhali district. The project is expected to bolster national energy reserves, with officials projecting a daily yield of five to seven million cubic feet of natural gas.

According to Zakir Hossain Khan, Deputy General Manager and Drilling In-Charge at BAPEX, the drilling began in earnest on Wednesday afternoon. Located in Bara Charigaon village within the Nabipur Union, the site is part of the existing Sundalpur gas field infrastructure. Although situated in Senbagh, the well is categorized as an extension of the previously developed Sundalpur-1, 2, and 3 wells in Companyganj, as all are connected to the same underground gas reservoir.

Should the extraction prove successful, the additional output will be integrated into the national grid to help address ongoing domestic energy demands. BAPEX teams are currently operating at full capacity to meet the project’s ambitious schedule.
