United States Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor arrived in Dhaka on Thursday for a three-day official visit, marking his first trip to Bangladesh since assuming his current diplomatic role. The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
Upon his arrival, Gor held a formal meeting with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman at the state guesthouse Padma. The session commenced shortly after 6:00 p.m., beginning with a broader discussion involving their respective delegations, followed by a private 20-minute dialogue between the two officials.
Gor, a prominent figure appointed by President Trump to navigate regional affairs alongside his concurrent duties as the U.S. Ambassador to India, took office in New Delhi this past January. His presence in Dhaka signals an intensified focus on regional engagement and diplomatic outreach.
Following the meeting, Gor took to social media to characterize the encounter as a productive start to his visit. In a statement posted to the platform X, he expressed his pleasure in meeting with Foreign Minister Rahman and reaffirmed a shared commitment to deepening the U.S.-Bangladesh partnership, noting that significant positive progress has already been achieved between the two countries.
