Blockade of the highway to keep the body of the murdered BNP worker in Raujan

Relatives and villagers blocked the Chittagong-Rangamati road with the dead body of BNP activist Kausaruzzaman, who was shot by terrorists in Raujan, Chittagong. Today Saturday from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm in Charabattal area of Raujan. The protesters gave an ultimatum to the police to quickly arrest the killers. They also demanded that the murderers be brought to light and justice be ensured.
Around 3:30 pm, the scene was seen, the road was blocked by the ambulance carrying the dead body and the body bed. Hundreds of men and women took to the streets and chanted slogans demanding justice for the killers. At this time, hundreds of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road and the passengers suffered.
According to the police, no case has been registered in the police station till four o’clock this afternoon. However, after burying the body in the evening, the family has been asked to come to the police station to file a case.
Talking to the family members, it is known that Kausaruzzaman was attacked by terrorists several times in the last two years. This time confirmed the shooting death. However, they do not know clearly what the dispute with him is about.
The family members said that Kausaruzzaman was returning home after being invited from his grandmother’s house at around three o’clock on Friday night. On the way, seven-eight armed men attacked him. He was shot in the back. The relatives got the news and took him first to a private hospital and later to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Doctors declared him dead early this morning.
Abul Kalam, the father of the deceased Kausaruzzaman, said, “My son is a supporter of BNP.” He was attacked more than once for protesting various injustices. This time he was shot dead. We want justice for this incident.
According to the police, earlier on February 25, miscreants publicly shot and killed a youth group worker named Abdul Majeed (50) in Olimiyahat Bazaar of East Gujra Union of the same upazila. He is a resident of Alimiahat Bazar area.
Earlier on January 5, another youth leader named Muhammad Jane Alam (48) was shot dead on a motorcycle about 500 meters away from Olimiyahat Bazar of the same union. Even after three and a half months of the incident, the police have not yet arrested anyone.
In the 20 months since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, a total of 22 murders have occurred in Roujan due to political violence and other disputes. 16 of them are claimed to be politically related. During this time, hundreds of shootings and clashes took place and more than 350 people were injured including bullet wounds.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raujan Police Station Sajedul Islam told Prothom Alo this afternoon that there was a traffic jam due to villagers and relatives blocking the road. They blocked the road from three o’clock. Police are trying to normalize the situation at the spot. When asked, OC Sajedul said that in 2025, a case was registered against Kausaruzzaman under the Explosion Act at the police station. No more cases.
