The latest installment in the Spider-Man franchise, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” has shattered international box office records, crossing the $1 billion milestone in just six days. Starring Tom Holland, the film has cemented its place in cinematic history as the second-fastest movie to reach the billion-dollar threshold, trailing only the 2019 Marvel epic “Avengers: Endgame,” which reached the mark during its opening weekend.
Domestic performance in North America has been particularly dominant, with the film grossing $407 million in its first four days, the fastest any production has ever reached the $400 million mark in the domestic market. The momentum continued into the work week, as the film set a record for the highest-grossing Monday in history, earning $47 million and eclipsing the previous $40 million record held by 2018’s “Black Panther.” Globally, the feature has amassed $645.8 million, contributing to a total opening run that stands as the largest domestic debut in North American history and the second-largest worldwide opening ever.
The film’s explosive start included $72 million from early previews and $169.8 million on its opening day alone. Buoyed by positive audience sentiment and a lack of major competition in the coming weeks, analysts project that “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is well-positioned to eventually surpass $2 billion, a rare feat achieved by only seven films in history.
This achievement makes “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” the fourth film of 2026 to join the billion-dollar club, following “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” “Michael,” and “Toy Story 5.” Additionally, Christopher Nolan’s latest project, “The Odyssey,” is poised to become the fifth, currently sitting at $912 million.
The current performance signals a significant recovery for the industry. While the theatrical market saw nine films cross the billion-dollar mark in 2019, the years following the pandemic struggled to see more than three films reach that height in a single year. The success of the current slate is reflected in the North American box office, which has already generated $3.579 billion in ticket sales between May and early August.
