Chandigarh court summons Salman Khan in multi-million rupee fraud case

A district court in Chandigarh has summoned Bollywood actor Salman Khan, his sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri, and several directors of Style and Content Jewellery Private Limited following a multi-million rupee fraud complaint. The legal action, reported by India Today, stems from a lawsuit filed by local businessman Arun Gupta, who alleges he was defrauded in connection with a “Being Human” jewelry showroom.
According to the complaint, Gupta was enticed to invest approximately 30 million rupees into the business, with 10 million rupees spent specifically on the construction of the showroom in Mani Majra. The businessman claims he was promised significant financial returns and robust operational support from the brand, neither of which materialized.
Gupta further alleges that the venture collapsed after the central jewelry supply unit ceased operations in February 2020, leaving the showroom without inventory and effectively destroying the business. The lawsuit contends that the plaintiff was lured into the investment through deceptive promises regarding Salman Khan’s involvement and the brand’s commitment to marketing and promotional support.
The court has ordered all named defendants to appear in person on October 5 to submit a formal response to the allegations.
Representatives for the brand have previously maintained that the licensing agreement for the jewelry business was granted by the Salman Khan Foundation to Style and Content Jewellery Private Limited in 2015. Under that independent licensing structure, the operating company retains sole responsibility for the management, marketing, and sale of the jewelry products.
