Udichi Shilpigoshthi Holds Nationwide Protests Against Cultural Oppression and Deteriorating Law and Order

The Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi, a prominent cultural organization, held nationwide protest rallies on Tuesday to denounce the worsening law and order situation, rising violence, and increasing acts of cultural aggression across the country.
The central protest took place at the National Press Club in Dhaka at 5:00 p.m., while simultaneous demonstrations were conducted in nearly every district across Bangladesh. The protests were organized to condemn a series of incidents, including murders, acts of sexual violence, the obstruction of traditional boat races, the destruction of musical instruments, and threats against cultural events.
During the central rally, Udichi Acting General Secretary Sangita Imam highlighted the deteriorating security environment. She specifically addressed the brutal murder of four members of the same family in Rangpur, accusing the police of issuing contradictory statements and failing to apprehend the actual perpetrators. Imam demanded an immediate, transparent investigation into the Rangpur killings and called for exemplary punishment for those involved in what she described as a cover-up.
Mahmud Salim, the Acting President of the Udichi Central Committee, presided over the rally. He alleged that fundamentalist groups are systematically working to dismantle the country’s secular cultural heritage. Salim cited recent disruptions to concerts, attacks on police lines intended to halt cultural programs, and attempts to suppress traditional boat races as evidence of a coordinated effort to transform Bangladesh into a communal and failed state. He pledged that Udichi would continue to mobilize the public to resist these efforts.
The Dhaka rally featured various speakers, including Udichi Vice President Shibani Bhattacharya, Assistant General Secretary Pradip Ghosh, Dhaka Metropolitan Secretary Konkan Nag, Khelaghar Presidium member Hannan Chowdhury, Youth Union President Khan Asaduzzaman Masum, and Trade Union Center Organizing Secretary Murshikul Islam Shimul. The event was moderated by Sheikh Anisur Rahman, Secretary of Organization for the central committee.
The protest also included cultural performances, with Shaon Kumar Ray delivering a solo musical performance and reciters Belayet Hossain and Masrur E Sattar Kallol presenting solo poetry readings.
